SANT HARI SINGH MEMORIAL LIBRARY

Sant Hari Singh Memorial Library of the College was established in 1946. With the consonance of vision and realistic dream of the founder President Sant Baba Hari Singh ji, the terminus of the college to reach the excellence and impart the quality education to the socially economically and educationally backword people of this drastically deprived and bacword rular –kandi area.

The Library Resource Centre is equipped with the state-of-the-art RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, integrated with Campus Analyzer software installed ona DELL (EMC) Power Edge T440 Server

The library automation software includes modules for acquisition, circulations, stock management, and subscription, binding and reporting.

The College Library, housed across the Ground floor and First floor of an impressive building, hosts a collection of more than 49947 books, 295 CD/DVDs, 42 journals and magazines and 11 newspapers. During Session 2022-23, 383 books were added to the collection. Additionally the digital collection comprises 60,00000 e-books (INFLIBNET N-List program, 7526585 e-books through NDL,3800000 e-books through DELNET, and 6293+ e- journals through INFLIBNET N-List program). The library also features a Digital Library with 12 computersfor accessing r-resources, including available through N-LIST(INFLIBNET) National Digital Library.Furthermore, services such as alerting users to Previous Year Question Papers,Employment News and Books of the month are provided.

The College library offers a rich collection of books, periodicals (Journals &magazines), e- books, e-journals, online databases, newspapers and research support tools. Photocopying facilities are available for students, and thelibrary subscribes to various international and national periodicals (Journals & magazines).The furnishings of the library are designed topromote academic knowledge and encourage students and faculty to engage in learning.The Library and all administrative processes are fully computerized and interconnected via LANconnection, with a Wi-Fi enabled campus.Books are bar coded for Automation and OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) facilities are provided for document searches. CCTV cameras ensure a safe studying environment.

The library comprises sections including the Circulation Counter, Stack Area, Reference Section, Reading Hall, Newspaper Section,and PeriodicalSection. Additionally Special reading carrels on the first flooroffer readersa private environment for focused study. The library maintains an annual Register of News Clippings related to the college that appearing in Newspaper.

The College Library holds institutional membership with the INFLIBNET N-LIST program, acollege component of the e-ShodhSindhu consortium and National Digital Library of India (NDLI) .Remote Access is provided to users for accessing e-resources and database using login credentials,and online feedback forms allow students to provide input.

The Library Advisory Committee frames policies for smooth functioning of the library and expeditiously executes decisions.

LIBRARY RULES

1. No student is permitted to enter the library without his/her identity-cum-library Card.
2. Not more than two books are issued to a student for a period of 14 days on the Library Card, after which these must be returned or got re-issued if the same are not in demand with the permission of the librarian. A fine of Rs. 1/- per day, per book, will be charged if the books are kept over due.
3. Library books should not be passed on to any guest or friend.
4. In case of loss or damage to library books in the form of scratching, over-writing, tearing of pages and spoiling of the books in any other manner will render the borrower liable to exemplary fine and disciplinary action besides his responsibility of replacing the book/s within 14 days failing which double the price of the book will be charged from him along with fine.
5. Students are advised to observe perfect silence in the library-cum-reading room and not to disturb others in any way.
6. Reference Books and current periodicals shall not be issued.
7. Loss of Identity-cum-Library Card should immediately be reported to the librarian, so that library staff may keep an eye on the misuse of the lost card in the college campus.
8. A book issued can be recalled any time by the librarian.
9. The library will be closed once a year for stock checking. All the borrowed books must be returned to the library as and when notified by the Principal/librarian.
10. The library shall remain open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Working Hours

Workdays: 8.30 am. to 4.00 pm.

Library remains closed on Sundays and holidays but remains open with usual timings during summer and winter vacations

Reference Services

  • Reference Section: Located on the ground floor -The section has a rich collection of over1111 books dealing with diverse streams.
  • Research Journal Section: the section provides users access to research journals of different disciplines in addition to back volumes of journals.

E- Resource Centre

  • An e- resource Centre with six computer systems has been installed for exploring and using e- resources.

 

Open Shelf System

  • Open Shelf System is in practice for student facility.

 

Rare Books

The college has a practice of preserving information resources particularly rare books, special books and reports, back volumes etc. for the benefit of its students, faculty or research scholars from other institutions. The readers are allowed to consult these books during library hours however borrowing of these books is not allowed for their rare nature. These rare books are used by special categories of users or by those with special purpose and they include books not in publication now, old books, Imperial Gazetteer Of India, government reports and yearbooks and Who’s Whos, rare translations, Reference Annuals, Census Reports of India, Service Rules Books , encyclopedias .
