Excellence in Education Since 1946 • Empowering Minds, Building Futures
Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College Mahilpur stands out as one of Punjab's most trusted institutions for quality education and career-focused learning. With decades of impact, the college has built a strong reputation for academic excellence, discipline, and real-world student development. What makes it special is its ability to blend traditional values with modern teaching methods. It is a matter of great honour that its Football Team (Men) won the Panjab University 'A' Division Football Championship for 20 years continuously. The Women's team has also excelled. NCC cadet Rohit Kumar led the Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and UT Chandigarh Directorate in the Republic Day Parade 2006.
With a strong faculty, well-equipped library (60,000+ books), and two modern computer labs, the college ensures students get a future-ready education. It's a place where potential turns into performance.
Shri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Mahilpur, a Multi Faculty, Post Graduate, Co-Educational College is a premier Institution in the rural area of District Hoshiarpur (Punjab). The establishment of the College in 1946 was the fruit of the selfless and tireless efforts of two visionaries — Sant Baba Hari Singh Kaharpuri, the Founder President of the Sikh Educational Council, and S. Harbhajan Singh, the Founder Principal — both motivated by the missionary zeal of providing higher education to the socially, economically and educationally deprived people of this rural, backward and kandi area.
The College is situated on the Hoshiarpur–Chandigarh Road at a distance of 22 kilometres from Hoshiarpur, 37 kilometres from Phagwara, 35 kilometres from Nangal Dam and 45 kilometres from Una (Himachal Pradesh) in the foothills of the Shivalik Range. The college campus is spread over 28 acres (200 Kanals) of land with imposing buildings in lush green, pollution-free environment, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The College which during the initial years imparted education in only two Faculties — Arts and Science — has shown tremendous transformative capability over the years. It has introduced new courses at both Under Graduate and Post Graduate levels in the Faculties of Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Commerce, Computer Science, Physical Education, Fashion Designing and Agriculture, with the sole objective of turning out physically fit, professionally competent, morally sound and socially aware young citizens equipped to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Excellence has ever been the hallmark of academics, sports and cultural activities at this College. Mahilpur is known as the nursery of football in Asia and right from its inception, the College has been serving as the lifeline of this nursery. Since its beginning, the institution has produced innumerable brilliant minds who have made their mark in such varied fields as armed forces, science, letters, education, administration, medicine, sports, engineering, politics and more.
Sant Baba Hari Singh Ji Kaharpuri was a great visionary who envisioned higher education for the people of Mahilpur and its neighboring areas almost eighty years ago. His dream began materializing in the late thirties of the last century, and in 1946, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College was established under the Sikh Educational Council, Mahilpur — of which Sant Baba Hari Singh Ji became the first Founder President.
With a missionary zeal of imparting quality education to the socially, economically and educationally deprived people of this rural, backward and kandi area, the college soon touched great heights of success and development in the fields of education and sports. The institution was founded with a deep commitment to following the exhortation of the 10th Sikh Master, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji — "to pursue the good of humanity."
With a mission to establish an exclusive teacher training institute, the Sikh Educational Council started a new venture in the form of Sant Baba Hari Singh Memorial Khalsa College of Education from the session 2006–07. Under his enduring vision and the joint efforts of the Sikh Educational Society, the college has achieved a sublime position across Punjab and stands as an eternal tribute to this legendary soul.
Principal Harbhajan Singh, the founding leader of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College Mahilpur, was a great visionary, educationist, philanthropist and thinker, who contributed his whole life and lifelong earnings to the college. Long before independence, he dreamt of a prestigious co-educational institution — and achieved it. Under his leadership, the institution gained national fame in football, earning the title "FOOTBALL NURSERY OF ASIA."
His unparalleled legacy and magnanimous efforts unlocked the doors of great opportunities for generations of students in the fields of army, bureaucracy, sports and various other departments of India. His unsurpassed and tremendous efforts still direct the modern youth of the area towards the path of truth, hard work and consistent effort.
Sant Baba Hari Singh Memorial Khalsa College of Education, Mahilpur, stands today as a flourishing branch of the noble tree he planted 68 years ago, proudly following in the footsteps of this legendary personality.
