The Department of Agriculture was established in Year 2012. Its aim is to fully equip the students with knowledge and skills in various facets of agriculture and its related specializations. Well-equipped agriculture experiential learning farm unit of the college help produce job providing, rather than job seeking, graduates. The department imparts quality education, generates students agricultural experiments output and reaches out to the peasantry through a B.Sc. (Four Year Course) Agriculture syllabi based subjects (Agronomy, Entomology, Extension Education, Floriculture & Landscaping, Food Science & Technology, Forestry , Fruit Science, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Plant Pathology, Soil Science, Vegetable Sciences, Biotechnology & Agricultural Meteorology) and multidisciplinary subjects (Punjabi, English, Economics, Sociology,  Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Environmental Sciences , Biochemistry, Microbiology and Computer Sciences). The department strives to achieve its mission to prepare students for successful careers and lifetime of informed choices in the global agriculture and natural resource system through its team highly competent and well-qualified agricultural and multidisciplinary faculty members along with departmental infrastructure.

Academic Programme: B.Sc (Agriculture) 4 Year Course (40 Seats) One Unit
Duration: 4 Year (8 Semesters)
Eligibility: 10+2 in Science (Medical/Non Medical or Agriculture Stream)

 

 

  B.SC. (FOUR YEAR COURSE) AGRICULTURE OUTCOMES

  • Knowledge Enhancement: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of essential facts, concepts, principles and theories relating to Soil Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Entomology and other such areas of agriculture.

  • Entrepreneurship Skills: Understanding the processes of setting up and managing viable business ventures.
  • Extension& Communication Skills: Developing appropriate communication skills for effective transfer of knowledge and technologies through extension programs.

  • Educational Leadership: Recognize and meet emerging agriculture challenges of global society and developing leadership and strong linkages in the agro-industrial setup.

  • Computational Skills: Recognize, analyse problems and plan strategies for their solutions with the help of computer skills

THRUST AREA

  • To strengthen UG programme in B.Sc. Agriculture Four Year Course with thrust on futuristic areas of recent trend in agriculture such as sustainable agriculture,automation and robotics agriculture machinery, precision agriculture and vertical agriculture for meeting latest challenges in the area of agriculture sciences.

  • To impart quality education with understanding of fundamental concept and techniques of maintaining and enhancing soil fertility, crop production, crop management, crop improvement, biodiversity and sustainability of agriculture worldwide.

  • To Develop the ability to know farming practices and their scope to improve and conserve in the rural areas and the environments

  • To apply knowledge of multidisciplinary courses through Agricultural microbiology, Plant biochemistry and Biotechnology, Molecular biology and Agriculture Environmental Sciences

  • To strengthen linkages with the Agri-business management and finance to develop profitable agricultural system.

CAREER PROSPECTS

  1. Primary Prospects :-        Students can attain positions as Agricultural Research Scientists, Agriculture Officers, POs, Food Quality Inspectors, Agriculture Development Officer (ADO), Horticulture Development Officer (HDO), Agriculture Inspectors, Quality Assurance Officer,Technical Assistants and administrative posts in central and state government and non-government organizations.
2. Secondary Prospects:-       

Other career options as Sales Officer in private companies and Technical Representatives in pesticide, fertilizer, seed and irrigation companies Opportunities include pursuing higher studies in reputed universities in India and abroad

 

3. Tertiary Prospects:-

Entrepreneurship ventures such as poly house, green house, integrated farming and agriculture-based small industries can be opened.
